New Attractions Coming to Disneyland This Summer (Updated with Opening Dates)

Star Tours 2, opening in June, is one of the attractions opening at Disneyland this summer.

There are only two scheduled openings of attractions or shows this summer at Disneyland.

Star Tours 2 (June 3rd, 2011)
Star Tours 2 puts a whole new twist on virtual space travel with Starspeeder 1000 craft -- predating the Starspeeder 3000 because the new show depicts an earlier chapter of the Star Wars saga than the original Star Tours did. But fear not: Techno-wizards are equipping passengers on the 1000 with the ability to experience the new adventure in eye-popping 3D -- wherever that adventure may take them.
(Spoiler Alert: Scroll down if you want to keep the destinations a surprise.)
The destination is not necessarily what guests expect -- unless they expect the unexpected -- as C-3PO, a new pilot (by accident) takes the controls for a journey to the "metropolitan" planet Coruscant or to Tatooine , an arid planet on the "Outer Rim," or to some other planet within Star Wars' mythical universe. Even the outcome of the adventure may change from one "launch" to the next.

Walt Disney World Announces Fastpass for Mickey Meet and Greet

Photo (c) Disney

This Spring at Walt Disney World, guests will be able to reserve your time (through a Fastpass) to meet Mickey Mouse at his new location in Town Square. This will let guests receive a Fastpass that will give them a hour window to come back and skip the stand-by line. Here are some other facts from the press release:

The new meet-and-greet location, Town Square Theater, will be located inside the current Exposition Hall area just inside the park entrance. Imagineers already are working to completely transform the space for the new experience. "This isn't just remodeling Expo Hall; it is completely re-imagining this entire venue as a beautiful Victorian-era theater and the new home for Mickey Mouse," Jon Georges, WDI Director, Senior Show Producer, said.

Guests arrive at a building befitting Mickey Mouse's stardom -- with a grand-Victorian-theater elevation, including a marquee that glistens with gold-leaf trim and sparkles with lights. Inside, there's a mosaic floor, lush curtains with gold rope tie-backs and polished-brass chandeliers. Imagineers are creating new elements and surprises for Magic Kingdom guests, including an interactive queue -- with an extra touch of Disney magic -- and highly themed retail shops.
The queue takes guests "backstage," where Mickey is waiting to greet them in a rehearsal-room environment amid posters, steamer trunks and stage props.

First Concept Art for Shanghai Disneyland Released

Disneyland Shanghai's First Conept Art (Click on the picture to view it larger). Photo ©Disney
Tom Staggs released the first concept artwork for Shanghai Disneyland and this park does not look like any other Disney Park that has come before it. Disney deliberatively made the picture blurry as to not give away too much information about the upcoming park. Below is the picture of Shanghai Disneyland that was released as part of Disneyland's 55th Anniversary celebration at the Walt Disney Family Museum.

In the first picture, you can see what looks like a castle like no other castle at a disney park along with many lakes around and in front of it. The castle and its surrounding areas in the first picture looks like the same area around the castle as the second photo with what looks like one more park on the far right. In the picture below, you can tell that in front of the new park, there is a stadium with what looks like a water/stage show in the middle.

On the lower right of the photo, you can see a mountain which looks as if it could be the new version of Pirates of the Caribbean that everyone is speculating about. It could also be some other type of water ride since there is a drop that resembles Splash Mountain's drop on the side of the mountain. In front of the stadium, it looks as if there is some sort of fountain with some sort of shopping area or attraction to the left of it. More information on the Shanghai Disneyland project will come out as the groundbreaking ceremony nears.
